Vicki Edwards, Northwood College for girls

Hi Will, We had a fab day today and I have had so much positive feedback from the girls.

Shirley Murfin St Cedd’s School, Chelmsford

Many thanks again for the great workshop you did with our year 4 children.

I know they all enjoyed it and certainly learnt a lot.

Everyone finished making their sculptures and enjoyed adding a few extras such as feathers, etc.

Kirsty Stanley, Galton Valley Primary School

The children thoroughly enjoyed the time that you spent at Galton Valley and so too did the staff.

It was a thoroughly worthwhile experience for the children and certainly added to their artistic skills and knowledge.

Susannah Moore, Finton House School

What a great workshop indeed!!

The children thoroughly loved your workshop and creating their wonderful chicken wire sculptures!  Thank you so much for your time and energy!!

Amy Shaw, Linchfield Primary school

Thank you so much for today! The children have really been challenged and have all achieved great results

Jacqueline Wilton, Lorenden Preparatory, Faversham

I just wanted to pass on my thanks for such a wonderful DT workshop!

Teachers and children alike were 'wowed' by the pieces you brought in and

delighted by the skills the children were encouraged to use/develop during

the activity.I managed to ask a few children if they had enjoyed their

time with you and they all replied with such enthusiasm, saying that they

liked using the tools and being allowed to create the whole piece from

start to finish.

We aimed to hang the creations up for display but the protest from the

children was too great - they were desperate to take them home to show

their parents!

Aoife O'Connor, Great Ormond Street Childrens Hospital School

We really enjoyed having you here and I know that our young people found it very interesting. I will definitely be in touch in the future regarding more workshops in the next academic year.

Charlotte Rogerson, Cottesmore School, Pease Pottage

Thank you so much for last week’s workshop – the children (and staff!) absolutely loved it!

Cathy Avery, St Hugh's School, Faringdon

Thank you so much for coming to St Hugh's. The children loved it and I have been making birds ever since! Will definitely keep your info and pass it on to my successor.

Thanks again.

Dawn Deakins, Kidgate Primary School, Louth

The children had a fantastic time meeting a 'real-life' sculptor and making their own sculptures. They were inspired by your collection of sculptures brought into school and fully enjoyed the experience of making their own.

Many thanks again- we hope to work with you again in the future.

Gil Armstrong Williams, Blundell's School, Tiverton

Just wanted to say how much we all enjoyed the workshop you did for us earlier in the month. The students (from year 6 - 13) all thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of working in wire. Some went away and told friends who came looking for wire to do their own! It was great to hear you advise and discuss senior applications with our year 12s also. It certainly opened a few eyes to the possibilities.

You were so professional and approachable, it made for a very successful day. I do hope to be able to work with you again in the future. I would recommend your workshops to others.

Sarah Proctor, Loatlands Primary School

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your time and experience you gave our children. It was lovely for them to see a new medium and realise that art comes in more forms than paint and paper!! It was great for them to push their fine motor skills and finger dexterity using the tools and wire. We have some lovely work to showcase at our school 'art gallery' now.

Kerry Fulford, Bridgewater Primary School

Recently we were looking for a sculpture workshop with a difference and Chicken Wired offered the perfect opportunity to challenge our children. Will worked with a group of children from a variety of classes and he provided all of the resources and tools. The children were absolutely amazed by Will’s variety of sculptures and they couldn’t wait to make their own! Some even asked if they could make another in their own time. The children were very well challenged and their skills were developed not only in art but mathematics too. Thank you to Will we now see chicken wire as a valuable resource in school for creating sculpture and we would definitely recommend him to other schools looking for a workshop with a difference.

Chicken Wire Workshop with William Ashley-Norman

January 2013

William came to our school to do a two x 1 day workshop with our year 8’s who are studying Wings, Scales and Feathers this year. William showed the pupils a variety of different creatures that matched our theme. The more dextrous and self confident pupils went for making sea horses, terrapins and ants, the few that find fine motor movement difficult or lacked self confidence chose birds. All the pupils achieved a completed creature by the end of the day, and those that had chosen birds made a flock!

I found William to be nicely chilled, actively helping all the pupils in turn, including me, I made a chameleon in between helping the pupils, he encouraged when a pupil was giving up too easily and praised when they did well.

William supplied all the wire, pliers and templates for the pupils to work from. The whole day was perfectly matched, we had 16/18 students doing each day.

This chicken wire workshop was really successful and the pupils really enjoyed the day and their own success so much that I intend to put this into my curriculum plan for Year 8 every year.

A real Find!

Katy Llewellyn & Nigel Crick, St John the Baptist Primary School

Dear Will

We are just writing to express our gratitude for the excellent two day Art experience you led for us recently.

We were deeply impressed by the passion you have for your work and how you were able to then instil this in the children as they worked on their own pieces. Your work was so original and creative. The children talked about this experience for many days after and several were so enthused that they then also paid to join the after school modelling club.

The larger pieces of work that you helped the children create have generated a large number of very positive comments from staff, parents and visitors.

We would have no hesitation in recommending you to other schools and are already looking forward to opportunity to invite you back in the future. Wishing you continued success with this venture.

Yours sincerely

Sarah Henshall, Wolstanton High School

Here at Wolstanton High school we have been lucky enough to have Will Ashley-Norman as our artist-in-residence for a whole week. In that time our year 10 & 11 pupils have had the opportunity to learn the techniques involved in making 3D wire sculptures. Pupils made sculptures of animals and plants that have linked with their current natural forms project. They found it to be a very rewarding experience, which has greatly contributed to their coursework grade.

Pupils from Bradwell Primary School also had the chance to take part in a workshop and work with Will for a whole day. Each pupil made a bird. Some of these birds will form part of an installation in the art quad.

Will had a great manner with our students who were motivated, encouraged and rewarded by Will. A great week! We look forward to working with you again, thank you.
